As part of the online activities surrounding the upcoming inaugural Australian Online Music Awards (the ONYA!s), a series of Australian pop celebrities will be hitting the Web to promote online music culture.
Produced in conjunction with OzEmail's ChatCity, eight different musicians will be heading online to discuss their music with fans on the Web. Between June 17 and August 5, pop stars such as Custard's Dave McCormack, Rob Hirst from Midnight Oil, Mental as Anything's Greedy Smith and Diana Ah Naid will take to the chat rooms once a week.
While the Australian music industry has been slow in the past to embrace the Internet, the ONYA's are drawing attention to the development of Australian music culture on the Internet. The readiness of Australian acts to use the Internet for promotional purposes also demonstrates the growing impact of the media in the wider community.
More details about individual appearances can be obtained at the ONYA! Web site at http://www.onya.com.au.
