With Internet advertising getting increasingly sophisticated, OzEmail has released a new product to allow advertisers to target particular regions of Australia, making regional advertising a possibility for smaller businesses.

The service will first be trialed in Sydney and Melbourne before being rolled out in other Australian states and to OzEmail's subsidiary ISPs.

According to OzEmail's CEO, David Spence, the new service will offer a new dimension to Internet advertisers.

"Advertisers want three things - reach, frequency and a return on their investment. Unlike other advertising mediums, online campaigns are entirely measurable, Spence remarked. "We anticipate that this new regional ad serving technology will add real value to online campaigns, increasing the advertiser's reach, campaign performance and reducing wastage."

Using the new service advertisers will be able to target banner advertising down to specific geographic regions based on OzEmail points of presence. According to Spence this will give smaller businesses the chance to make the most of Internet advertising.

"If you're an entrepreneurial panel beater wanting to assist hail-beaten Sydney cars owners, this technology offers you a unique opportunity to advertise to Sydney drivers."
