OzEmail Internet, a subsidiary of UUNET, an MCI WorldCom company, has announced the availability of the UUNET Dial Access Network (DAN) to new customers.

The Dial Access Network being deployed around Australia by UUNET includes 100 points of presence (POPs) with capacity for over 40, 000 ports, effectively doubling the capacity of the current OzEmail network.

"At OzEmail Internet we are thrilled to offer our subscribers access to a network as reliable as this," said OzEmail Internet General Manager, Justin Milne. "UUNET are experts in the field and this network will form part of their global network."

"The immediate beneficiaries of the Dial Access Network are OzEmail Internet subscribers, who will enjoy even more reliable connections, greater accessibility and a wider availability of OzEmail Internet's high usage pricing plan, OzE200. Being able to utilise a network as sound as UUNET's is a great advantage for us as a business," Mr Milne added.

The strength of the network lies in its global architecture, managed facilities and robust components including Ascend TNT terminal servers and Cisco routers in use throughout 20 countries.

OzEmail Internet is undertaking a comprehensive education and information campaign to ensure our customers are up-to-date with all developments relevant to them. This includes information in our customer newsletter, targeted regional banner advertising at local POPs, links off the OzEmail home page and customer service help lines.

"As the new network is rolled out nationally our existing subscribers will require new access numbers to use the DAN and a slightly modified log-on procedure.

"We will guide our users through the changes every step of the way - and I'm confident they will quickly experience the benefits of the network investment," commented Mr Milne."
