People are buying and selling "anything that can be souvenired," general manager of online auction site stuff.com.au, Chris Haylack, told ZDNet Australia.
From AU$10 pins to an Olympic torch commemorative pack, which was sold for AU$2050, "perhaps the most outrageous price" paid was AU$650 for an Olympics volunteer's outfit, according to Haylack.
"Like all trends, there's a lot of people asking ridiculous prices," Haylack said.
"Sometimes [traders'] expectations are a bit high," he added, referring to another Olympic volunteer's uniform with a price-tag of AU$1000. "It hasn't managed to get any bids yet," Haylack said.
Stuff.com.au has seen six volunteer uniforms go under the hammer to date, and three Olympic torches.
The site had also reported an enormous amount of trading in Olympics tickets, although traders were again afflicted with "unreal price expectations" to begin with.
Most tickets ended up being sold for "not too much over their [true] value," Haylack said.
The quantity of Olympics memorabilia hitting the hammer at stuff.com.au has increased by about 300 percent over the last three to four weeks, with several hundred new Olympics items up for auction each day now, according to Haylack.
Generally online auctions last three to five days, but "we've seen a much higher rate of bidding on [Olympic] items and a success rate of about 80 percent - it's usually less than that," Haylack said.
Stuff.com.au confirmed today that it hopes to have Channel 7 Olympics memorabilia on the site sometime soon.
