The appointment is not a state chief information officer (CIO) one as the CIO title is only used at the agency level in Queensland. As assistant director general however, Grant will work with a number of agency CIOs in an administrative capacity.
A veteran of both the public and private IT sector, Grant will lead efforts to form more commercial partnerships for government IT projects.
"Across the public sector, Mr Grant will play a central role in leading multi-agency and whole-of-government ICT projects," said director-general of the Department of Public Works (QLD), Mal Grierson. The Office of Government ICT is a division of the Department.
"This will include implementing the Smart Directions Statement for ICT within the Queensland government, a key government planning tool to guide investments in projects and services where there is a major ICT component," said Grierson.
The Smart Directions Statement for ICT comprises about 80 tasks, which Grant will deliver over the next two years
Grant will begin his tenure on June 27.
