The NRMA has launched a new CD-ROM, 'Shift', that will allow young people to learn the basics of onroad safety from the safety of their PC.
Featuring interactive video scenes, quizzes and driving simulators Shift was designed to give young people an awareness of the many issues involved in driving a car.
Launching Shift, the NRMA's President Nicholas Whitlam, said that the CD-ROM is designed to cut down on the incidences of young people being involved in car accidents.
"Young drivers comprise approximately 14% of the population and acquire 15% of driver licences, yet make up nearly one third of all fatalities and road injuries," he pointed out.
"Shift is aimed an engaging and challenging 15 to 17 year olds. It incorporates discovery learning and problem solving b providing young people with an opportunity to explore various scenarios. They can see the consequences of their decisions in an exciting and interactive, but safe, enviroment."
The CD-ROM was developed by Adelaide based Fusion Design Consultants, a company specialising in the production of multi-media titles.
