Murdoch eyeballs Russian TV

News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch is considering a move on Russia's NTV that could push aside a rescue plan by CNN's Ted Turner.

The Financial Times quoted individuals close to the talks as saying that preliminary discussions had been held over the past few days that could trigger an offer involving Murdoch in conjunction with an investment fund or other partners.

Turner, founder of CNN, announced last week that he had reached an agreement with the NTV founder to buy a stake in the network - by far Russia's most influential source of information outside the Kremlin's control.

News Corp is the world's fifth-largest media conglomerate
