MCI WorldCom denies axing spree

Despite sources revealing that telecommunications provider MCI WorldCom is cutting employees from its Australian operation, the telco is remaining tight-lipped about the alleged slaying.

-We're not commenting at this stage, we don't comment on speculation," a spokesperson for MCI WorldCom told ZDNet.

According to an anonymous source, WorldCom is currently retrenching staff from its Australian operation.

-The cleanout is happening right now," the source said.

MCI WorldCom has around 700 staff locally, which includes employees from its wholly-owned subsidiary UUNET.
