IT outsourcing company, KAZ Computer Services has pipped IBM at the post in its bid to win a four-year contract with satellite communications company Station 12 BV.

Under the multi-million dollar contract, KAZ will provide 24-hour outsourcing of three S12 HP UNIX boxes and one new N4000 enterprise server at its Meadowbank, Sydney data centre.

KAZ will also overhaul Station 12's WAN, LAN and desktop and laptop infrastructure.

"We're going to take a re-look at the whole infrastructure and put them in a good platform going forward," KAZ MD Peter Kasacos told ZDNet.

"Previously, S12 outsourced this equipment through its joint venture with IBM," KAZ said.

The decision to outsource the management of these platforms to KAZ was taken partly because of the "cost savings [we] could provide".

Station 12, which currently runs on a Novell network, will be moved to an NT network within the next 18 months, according to KAZ.

Station 12 is a joint venture company held by Telstra and Royal Dutch Telecom.
