Employment Web sites were pulling in the punters at the Interact & IT 2000 trade show held in Melbourne last week.

"[The show] was a definite success for Seek," a spokesperson from online employment site seek.com.au told ZDNet Australia. "The organisation and effort put into [the show] was certainly worth it."

Seek claims that not only was the show a "a phenomenal success" in terms of interest from jobseekers, but multiple advertisers stopped at the stand to register and post job advertisements at the exhibition.

"It was a rare occasion to explain how the site works," the spokesperson said.

Online employment service JOBNET also found the Melbourne exhibition to be a success.

"We spoke to a lot of IT students and people getting into the industry at the age of 30-plus," JOBNET's marketing executive Simone Havin said.

JOBNET found its online resume storage facility the most popular online service to increase throughout the four-day show.

"Approximately 400 new resumes were put online," during the course of the show, Havin said.

Furthermore, candidates on the JOBNET database rose by 2000 during the event.

On the other hand, Seek.com.au found traffic to the site during the trade show to be pretty much consistent with the weeks leading up to the show.

"We get 6000 registrations a week anyway," the spokesperson said, " We wouldn't expect to see an immediate boost [from the show]."
