Chip giant Intel has launched the Pentium 4 Processor in Australia, claiming the product will be more tempting to a tech savvy market with its higher bandwidth capabilities.
"It's not appealing as a corporate product yet," Intel National Marketing Manager for Australia and New Zealand, Phillip Dows said.
The new Pentium 4 Processor is not designed to run spreadsheets or word processing applications, according to Dows. With its higher bandwidth capabilities, the product has been built for the more tech savvy in mind, and is claimed to handle video streaming and graphics better than other technologies.
Available from a range of companies, Dows believes the processor will be most appealing to gamers for use in 3D graphics.
"It's not designed to run spreadsheets and word processing. Video content creation is where the technology really flies," he said.
The company says there won't be a strong take-up of the product from big corporations in the first instance, however the Pentium 4 processor would be used for Web security - running off the back of anti-virus programs in the future.
"Today's office is very different, running more net security multi-tasking environment behind spreadsheet and word processing documents, which is what Pentium 4 is useful for," Dows said.
