Impulse Airlines has stood by its promise that IT call centre staff will keep their jobs while the takeover of its domestic carrier service continues.
Two hundred staff in the airline's check-in and baggage handling division were retrenched this week, raising fears for other employees.
-We're keeping the call centre, it will continue to operate for Qantas," a spokesperson for Impulse Airlines said.
-I can't place my hand on my heart and say that staff numbers will stay the same, but the [IT] facility is moving forward."
Australia's discount domestic carrier is being swallowed by Australia's largest carrier - Qantas - after institutional investors withdrew their backing for Impulse earlier this month.
Both carriers have stood firm against claims there would not be widespread staff cuts as a result of the takeover.
Qantas public affairs manager Des Sullivan said at the time, the takeover would -secure more than 1000 Impulse jobs with [his] airline."
The Impulse call centre, which is made up of 120 employees, -will continue to operate for Qantas," Impulse said today.
