Great Plains, an e-business solutions provider, announced today its intended acquisition of Solomon Software for US$35 million and 2,600,000 shares of Great Plains common stock.

The deal, to be finalised in June, will see Great Plains expand into the mid-sized market.

"In Australia and New Zealand, Great Plains and Solomon are well regarded for their robust midmarket solutions. The combination of these two companies -- both in terms of solutions and business management expertise -- increases the opportunity for local businesses to successfully move forward in their creation of an interconnected business community," said Bob Smith, Regional Director Asia/Pacific, Great Plains, in a prepared statement.

The combined company, Great Plains, will have over 130,000 customers, 2,200 employees and a 2,000 channel partners worldwide.

Solomon Software, a provider of business management and e-business software, will operate as the Solomon business unit of Great Plains -- with Michael Rupe, current president and CEO of Solomon, at the helm.

"Solomon will be managed as a business unit of Great Plains so the current Great Plains Australasian company and staff continues forward as planned and all Solomon team members will continue on as a team unit," Smith told ZDNet Australia.

"It will mean business as usual," he said.
