According to a recent preview in InfoWorld, the package will cost US$250, or US$150 for a competitive upgrade; it will ship in Mac OS and Microsoft Windows 95, 98 and NT versions.
FileMaker President Dominique Goupil and other company executives on Monday will explain details of Version 5.0's features as well as news about the FileMaker Pro database product line.
Other new products may include a revamped, 'Carbon'-compliant version of FileMaker Pro Server software, currently at Version 4.1, and an upgrade to FileMaker Pro Developer's Edition, now at Version 4.0. Carbon is a programming interface for developers.
FileMaker spokesman Kevin Mallon refused to comment Friday on details of new products or other announcements from the company.
Version 5.0 will be the first significant FileMaker Pro upgrade in a year. In September 1998, the company shipped FileMaker Pro 4.1, an update that offers hooks into the ODBC standard and included data-importing capabilities from ODBC-compliant databases. In April, FileMaker posted a free ODBC Driver Technology Preview online for FileMaker Pro 4.1 Windows and Mac OS users.
FileMaker was first created for the Macintosh by Apple Computer Inc., which later crafted versions for Microsoft's Windows and NT operating systems.
