Excite Australia has relaunched its general news channel with a new range of services designed to allow it to compete in the increasingly competitive portal market.

The portal site has expanded its range of services, to include an hourly news feed from the ABC, a news photographic library and expanded weather coverage according to Excite Australia's Marketing Manager, Joanna Finlay.

"We have also recognised that Australians are hungry for news, and through a partnership with the ABC, we have introduced an hourly news service which will cover stories as they unfold."

Finlay said that the site offers a range of news services in an environment that allows users to make the most of the aggregate content.

"Our new look News channel is much more than a cosmetic change," she noted. "Internet users will have access to the best aggregated content on an Australian portal and a variety of unique services - which can be personalised to the user's own excite.com.au start page."
