Cisco Systems and Citrix Systems have joined forces in a bid to co-develop technologies that provide ASPs and enterprise customers enhanced capabilities for application performance over the Internet.

The companies say the joint initiative enables ASPs to offer higher value-add services and better levels of guarantee on applications hosted on Cisco networking infrastructure and Citrix server-based computing software.

Through a Cisco technology-based network and Network-Based Application Recognition (NBAR), enterprises can achieve higher levels of performance for business applications by classifying and prioritising Citrix Independent Computing Architecture traffic. Citrix will support Cisco's NBAR technology with its enhanced version of Citrix Independent Computing Architecture (ICA) in future application server software products.

With NBAR and ICA technology, traffic within a Citrix ICA session can be classified most appropriately for a particular quality of service mechanism.
