Call centre market to boom

The call centre services market is expected to soar by 2005 in the Asia/Pacific region, with Australia set to become one of the leading players, according to an industry report.

Research company IDC is predicting the market will grow from US$1.2 billion in 2000 to over US$4 billion in the next four years.

The report says Australia, India and China are well placed to dominate the market by 2005, due to the rapid expansion of the Indian market plus the expected boom in China.

-Enormous opportunities exist for call centre integrators and outsourcers across the region, particulary in India, China and Australia," IDC Senior Analyst for IS Outsourcing Phil Hassey said.

Within Australia, the market is tipped to grow from US$480 million in 2000 to US$924 million in 2005, a Compound Annual Growth Rates (CAGR) of 14 percent. The overall CAGR for the region is 25 percent.

The growth will create significant opportunities for vendors to increase existing capabilities or for new consultants and operators to enter the marketplace, the report found.
