Australia's second largest telco Cable & Wireless Optus has said it had started preparing for a change in branding ahead of a AU$17 billion takeover by Singapore Telecommunications.
C&W Optus chief executive officer Chris Anderson said a Brand Group had been set up within the company to prepare for the massive task of dropping "Cable & Wirelesss" from the company's name.
"Changing our brand involves lots of work including myriad project streams, including all stationary..., company advertising and promotional collateral, building signage, Internet branding and more," Anderson told staff in a memo obtained by Reuters.
C&W Optus will retain the "Yes Optus" brand, while staff have been instructed to just use Optus for internal communications.
The company's corporate colours will be changed to black and green.
In May, SingTel chief executive officer Lee Hsien Yang said the Optus branding would remain.
SingTel's bid is waiting on a recommendation from Australia's Foreign Investment Review Board, which has until September to make a decision.
Cable & Wireless Optus's parent, C&W Plc, has agreed to sell its 52.5 percent controlling stake in Optus to SingTel.
C&W Optus shares were four cents lower at AU$3.41 in early trade, while SingTel shares ended at S$1.73.
An Optus spokesperson was not immediately available.
