Broadband users take protest to the streets

Broadband users who are up in arms over Telstra's recently announced three gigabyte restrictions on data downloads, are planning to take their protest to the streets.

The BigPond anti-capping 2001 protest -- being organised at www.uproared.com/bpa/ -- will be taken to the streets of Sydney and Melbourne. Date and time information is to be confirmed.

"We are currently seeking people to plan and lead protests in Sydney and Melbourne," a message on the site says.

"This is no longer just about the limit -- it's about the dated technology Telstra is using and how far Australia is behind the rest of the world in broadband technology and availability."

Another hub of information for broadband users -- www.broadband.org.au -- is supporting the protest.

"I definitely agree with any kind of public display of dissatisfaction at what Telstra is doing," broadband.org's webmaster Adrian Sobotta told ZDNet.

"It's great to see people doing something about it rather than just stamping their feet," he added.

The protest organiser has been contacted for comment.
