Those who are tired of the boring ring tones on their mobile phones may soon be able to personalise them with melodies from songs by The Beatles, Destiny's Child, Ricky Martin and Sarah McLachlan, among others.

Premium Wireless Services, which provides entertainment content to mobile devices, has licensed the rights to a variety of songs and music from Sony Music Entertainment so it can offer them as ring tones for mobile phones.

The agreement allows Premium Wireless to sample selections from Sony's catalogue to use as melodic ring tones for mobile phones and other wireless devices.

Premium Wireless' customers include Cingular, the second-largest mobile telephone operator in the US, media giant News Corp and BT Cellnet -- a unit of British Telecom.
