Microsoft co-founder Paul Allen, who has sold 48.585 million Microsoft shares valued at about US$4.2 billion since mid-February, plans to sell 2 million more common shares worth US$140 million, according to Securities and Exchange Commission filings.

Allen, who owns professional sports teams and invests in technology and cable companies, has routinely sold Microsoft shares to diversify his portfolio, his spokeswoman has said.

He filed with the SEC on August 7 to unload the 2 million shares, which were part of founders stock he acquired in June 1981. The filing was publicly released by the SEC on Wednesday.

Allen's most recent transactions included 3 million shares valued at more than US$210 million that were sold on July 31.

Microsoft's general counsel, William Neukom, made a filing on August 8 to unload 100,000 shares valued at US$7.2 million.

Microsoft was up 5/16 to 71-5/16 on Nasdaq. Its shares have a 52-week high of 119-15/16 and a low of 60-6/16.
