Taiwan's leading personal computer maker Acer has lowered its 2000 sales and net profit forecasts because of a sluggish personal computer market around the world.
Acer cut its 2000 net profit projection to between US$247 million and US$252 million from a previous forecast of US$373 million, a company spokeswoman said.
Acer also cut its 2000 sales forecast to between US$3.27 billion and US$3.42 billion from US$4.67 billion, the spokeswoman said.
A slow PC market worldwide is being blamed.
"Since global PC demand is weak, our orders are down," the company said. "We had planned to sell shares in our subsidiaries to boost profits, but that did not materialise in the wake of recent stock slides."
Acer said in September it might have difficulty reaching its 2000 sales target.
Nomura Securities' senior analyst Ben Lee said Acer was hurt by shrinking orders from its major client, IBM. The world's largest computer maker last week reported disappointing third-quarter sales and a step back on its revenue outlook.
