ASX takes stock of erratic site

The Australian Stock Exchange Web site has been dogged by technical glitches for the best part of a year, with no immediate relief in sight.

An ASX spokesperson says the site has been experiencing problems since its re-launch in August 2000, as a result of an unanticipated increase in traffic.

It claims the number of visitors has increased 30-40 percent, to over 7 million visitors per month.

The Exchange is currently performing infrastructure upgrades on the site to increase service functionality.

The site suffered a minor disruption this morning to its share prices and company announcement services.

A message posted read: "we are currently experiencing technical difficulties with our Web site. As a result of these issues, information including share prices and company announcements may be unavailable intermittently throughout the day."

From now up until the end of July, "there may be a few instances of technical glitches of a minor nature," the spokesperson said.
