More specifically, the APC PowerStack 1U uninterruptible power supply (UPS) has been designed to protect hubs, switches, routers, and remote access internetworking equipment from power disturbances.
The PowerStack will be available in both 250VA ($790) and 450VA ($990) to accommodate stationary and rack/stack environments. The APC PowerStack could be of interest to administrators of areas where space is a premium, taking only 1U of rack space and can also be configured for desktop or wall mounting.
"As communications between locations, immediate access to the Internet, and 'Voice over IP' become critical for accomplishing day-to-day business operations, the potential ramifications of power anomalies such as sags, surges, spikes and blackouts can jeopardise any business activity," said Leanne Cunnold, country manager of APC in Australia and New Zealand.
Cunnold added that the PowerStack can stop "bad power" from interrupting router, switch or hub communications, which can potentially prevent network downtime and save thousands of dollars in lost business and service calls.
"Businesses today are becoming increasingly reliant on networking equipment to support core business activities," said Troy Andrew, small medium business product manager, Cisco Systems Australia.
"This includes data, voice and video applications over wide area networks and companies using e-commerce applications for important business transactions. An APC UPS running in conjunction with Cisco's network solutions virtually eliminates the risk of network failure due to power problems."
According to Cunnold, power-related network downtime is a business critical issue that will prevent companies from realising their financial objectives. She said APC's PowerStack UPS will keep essential communications available and businesses up and running.
