Singer Robbie Williams' greatest-hits album will soon be released in UK music stores, and some phone shops, pre-loaded on a memory card.

The album will cost about three times more than a CD and feature video content as well as a "CD-quality" version of the album.

While the mobile format will doubtless become popular with teenagers, its pricing may cause some parents a few grumbles. While a CD copy will cost about US$16.22 (8.99 pounds) from online outlets, the preloaded card will cost about US$54.13.

Carphone Warehouse and Williams' record company, EMI Music, are currently negotiating the release of further albums in time for the lucrative Christmas period.

Danny Van Emden, digital music director at EMI, described the move in a statement as the "next logical chapter in the affair" of mobile usage.

If it's on a memory card, then ...Anonymous -- 20/10/04

If it's on a memory card, then it isn't exactly a "CD" is it. It is an "album" though since an album is "one or more recordings issued together."
