Oracle issues critical patches

Patches fixing over 50 flaws, including some in PeopleSoft products, have been released by the database giant.

Software giant Oracle this week released a "critical" patch update designed to make dozens of software fixes, including seven in products it acquired from PeopleSoft.

The collection of patches for multiple security vulnerabilities is part of Oracle's new periodic approach to resolving bugs in its code, an issue that has bedeviled the software industry.

Products affected by the update include versions of Oracle's Database Server, its Application Server and its Collaboration Suite. Also included are versions of the Oracle E-Business Suite and Applications product, Oracle Enterprise Manager Grid Control and some Oracle PeopleSoft applications.

The update includes nonsecurity fixes that are required by security patches, because of interdependencies, Oracle said. Several vulnerabilities patched by the update are in both the Database Server and Application Server products, Oracle said. For the Database Server product alone, the update aims to make 24 fixes. In addition, Oracle is making more than 30 fixes to its Collaboration Suite software.

The security update is available at Oracle's security alert Web site.
