I think it's more of a minefield - just when you think you've got rid of it there'll be another thing sat there.
With the above in mind though, what _extra_ stuff will be needed for P2P ? The comments imply they intend to "do something about that too".
Stephen, Stephen, Stephen.
You didn't HAVE to say you were going to block political content. It's implied in the lack of openness and public scrutiny for the setup of this so-called 'filter.'
More to the point, if you put it in now, what about a government five years down the track who decides that the ALP website is now dangerous for the public to view and adds it to the blacklist?
Like a fellow commenter recently said - "You don't make laws safe for the good governments, you make them safe from the bad ones."
I'd say the attempted blocking of wikileaks would come under that category would you?
rofl @ conroy
I keep saying this, but Conroy is a f@#$%ng moron, who has no conception of what he's up against. Resign ,and go and do something els. You,re just not up to it.
"If I stood up anywhere and said 'hey, this filter will block peer to peer' then rightfully I should be ridiculed, I've never said that ... it is not designed to deal with peer to peer."
-- Steven Conroy, via ZDnet, 31/3/09
"Technology is improving all the time. Technology that filters peer-to-peer and BitTorrent traffic does exist and it is anticipated that the effectiveness of this will be tested in the live pilot trial."
-- Steven Conroy, Dept. of Broadband Blog, 22/12/08
So now not only is he unclear on just what he wants to filter, he won't pin down what platforms or protocols it works with either.
(Although, really, I suppose the ridicule commenced a long time ago ...)

It's not a silver bullet. It's not even a harmless blank. It is like an old, damaged, rusty, and dangerous bullet that is more than likely going to blow your hand off than give your intended target any cause for concern.
