Easy solution Mel Sommersberg -- 14/10/09

Why don't the very small handful of ATM manufacturers get together and develop a facia design that people will become familiar with and leave it that way for at least 20 years? People will have a better idea they are being ripped off if they can better ascertain the way an ATM facia has been designed.

As an example, St George fitted a second-hand cover with worn paint over the keypad on their machine in North Sydney recently with a handful of readily obtainable pop rivets. The card slot is also fitted poorly. I did a quick check of the machine before inserting my card and it turns out that the machine is legit.

To someone who is less familiar with the possibilities though, the poorly fitting card slot could be a skimmer and the shield over the keypad could easily contain a camera.

Come on NCR and Diebold.... How about it?
