Apple plugs 17 OS X flaws

in brief Apple today has announced a new security update -- its fifth for the year -- with patches for 17 OS X vulnerabilities.

The update included fixes for users of Mac OS X v10.3.9, Mac OS X Server v10.3.9, Mac OS X v10.4.9, and Mac OS X Server v10.4.9.

The most serious of these vulnerabilities is for CoreGraphics in which an attacker could entice a user to open a specially crafted PDF file, resulting in an application crash and an overflow allowing the execution of malicious code.

Other serious patches include those for Bind, Fetchmail, and GNU Screen. The update is available from within Mac OS X via the Software Update pane in System Preferences, or from Apple's Software Downloads.

The fifth security update for mac os Anonymous -- 25/05/07

Sounds like mac os is going down the same path as windows.....

More like Mac's OS has always been on that path. Anonymous -- 26/05/07 (in reply to #320079953)

It's just under more scrutiny now.

Not a big deal Weston Girot -- 26/05/07

Windoze will always be worse off. Although Mac announces these problems there is no potential threat. most macs are set up to receive these updates automatically in the background, and ones that aren't don't have to worry about attackers because they most likely do not have a network connection.
As long as Mac stays on top of things and keeps Mac so that it "just works" there really isn't a problem.
Although we hear of all these problems, have you actually heard of someone whose mac has been attacked yet?
Exactly, the odds of a Windoze user getting attacked compared to a MacAttack Are Far Larger.
Also you mentioned this is the "5th" security update, how many has Microsoft offered?
