Another eBay scam fishes for bank details

Another e-mail scam is targeting the users of eBay, claiming their use of the auction site has been restricted until they update their account information.

The e-mail uses an image to display the text: "During our regular update and verification of the accounts, we couldn't verify your current information. Either your information has changed or it is incomplete. As a result, your access to bid or buy on eBay has been restricted. To start using your eBay account fully, please update and verify your information by clicking below :".

The image has the appearance of normal e-mail text, and links to a site that purports to be an eBay security update. The scammers utilised common tricks to make the fake URL appear legitimate, including using ASCII characters to write the URL and hiding the real address behind an '@' symbol.

The page that the e-mail links to asks for eBay user information, credit card details and even the users ATM PIN number.

Yes this is true. I came across it in my E-mail and almost filled it out but I checked with my daughter who said do not send anything that E-bay
doens't ask for that information, so I was one of the lucky ones who didn't fill in the information. In Ohio, USA.

    Hello...
I have been plagued by this scam due to the scammer hacking paypal and getting my discover card number and my e-mail address. I have since reported this scammer's attempt to get my personal information to paypal. The scammer just sent me an email from info@ebay.com to have me provide my ebay login credentials in exchange for winning a ford explorer.

The wording of their emails has changed, but it takes you to the same thing. Please enter all card details including PIN Number. If it was not for that I probably would have filled in the details requested. Please beware. Nearly fell for the same thing on Paypal

I got one of these fake emails supposedly from PayPal asking me to update account info. However, I was puzzled by the fact that it did not require me to use my password to access it. PayPal never communicates like this without asking for your password first and they never, never ask you to give them your password on such a form. A little further checking made me more suspicious. I eMailed PayPal at spoof@paypal.com and they confirmed it was a spoof. They also provided guidance on what to do if I had been taken in by it.

Members should remember that ebay never ever asks you for your email name , p****word or bank information .If this is never given out by members who receive such a request , the wheels will come off and the scam will fall apart , leaving the hackers unfinancial and worn out in all the futile work they need to do to capture perhaps a couple of unsuspecting non readers of ebay's policies and it's safe security system .
