A Sydney department store worker allegedly stole $250,000 worth of electrical items, including laptops and iPods, and sold them through a pawn shop, police have said.

The man, 35, worked in the home entertainment and computer section of a store in George St, in the CBD, and allegedly stole the goods between January and May. Police have said Apple laptops and iPods were among the items which he took to a pawn shop.

On Friday, while finishing his shift, he allegedly removed an iPod from a cabinet and police say they saw him hiding it under his jacket.

Police arrested a Granville man and charged him with one count of larceny as a clerk, four counts of disposing of stolen property and four counts of making a false statement in relation to disposing of over $10,000 worth of stolen property.

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on August 3.
