in brief Global food giant Heinz has integrated a combined hardware/software solution from Sophos to combat malware attacks and unauthorised application use.

Heinz recently introduced a Web-based thin client for company-wide use -- which includes operations in Asia Pacific -- and needed to bolster its protection against the threat of online attacks, said a statement released this morning.

The company implemented Sophos's WS1000 Web Security Appliance across Asia Pacific and Europe/Middle East/Africa to stop attacks before they have a chance to "hit user's desktops".

"It was vital that we deploy a solution that was able to offer a high level of accuracy when analysing Web sites, rather than restricting access to legitimate Web sites and stopping our workforce from doing its job," said Chris Leonard, Heinz European IT security and compliance manager.

Heinz was also using Sophos Anti-Virus's application control feature to restrict the usage of unauthorised or unwanted applications, according to the statement.
