Resources giant Woodside Energy has chosen IronPort's e-mail security appliance over rival Symantec for spam, virus and spyware protection at its Perth and Houston facilities. Woodside pitted the two vendors against each other late last year as part of an evaluation process, according to IronPort. The company purchased a few IronPort C300 e-mail security appliances to improve redundancy and provide secure e-mail to all users at the sites, John Martens, IronPort southern region manager, said. The sale, in mid-December, was negotiated by IronPort's Australian distributor Channelworx and fulfilled by reseller Corporate Express. The value of the deal was not disclosed. IronPort's win follows Cisco's purchase of the company in January for US$830 million. Woodside was not available for comment.
