CSC Australia has installed MessageLabs software throughout the company to protect its 4,000 e-mail users from viruses and spam. The services vendor said in the past it used "multiple solutions" to combat the problems, but still experienced spam levels of 49 percent for incoming e-mail. Selecting an Internet-based suite of products had been important due to the nature of the company's workforce, according to Emily Richmond-Jones, CIO, CSC Australia. "Our employees work in locations across the country, from open mine shafts to oil rigs, and accessing e-mails remotely is a normal part of their working day. "To safeguard our users against these threats, we needed to provide them with an Internet-based solution to protect their e-mails from viruses and incoming spam," she said. Since implementing MessageLabs, CSC's spam levels had decreased to "insignificant levels", said Richmond-Jones. The value of the deal was not disclosed. MessageLabs is not a CSC partner.
