Open source solutions provider Red Hat has announced a new consulting service for business wanting to migrate its IT infrastructure to open source technologies.

Based in Brisbane, Red Hat has set up an open source consulting arm to provide solutions, training and support to Australian organisations deploying Linux and other open source solutions.

Red Hat will also offer consultation for the rest of the Asia-Pacific region, including New Zealand.

-Increasingly, global enterprises are migrating expensive, proprietary Unix systems to open source -- reducing IT overhead and the total cost of ownership," Red Hat vice president and managing director Mark White said.

The consulting service will offer implementation, training and support on Red Hat products, including operating systems, tools, network services, mail and directory solutions.

Red Hat offers an initial pilot program of the open source solution.

The service provides Linux migration and integration, secure open source Web servers with firewalls, content management applications, and e-commerce.
