 Job cuts in the US dot-com sector appear to have slowed in May after an all-time high in April, according to a new survey that counts 13,419 dot-com layoffs so far this month. The outplacement firm Challenger Gray & Christmas says the cuts it counted in May were down 24 percent from April's record high of 17,554. However, it said the total 64,983 cuts made so far this year, is already 60 percent higher than the layoffs counted during all of 2000. For the third month in a row, Challenger said, most of the dot-com job cuts came from Internet technology, or infrastructure companies. Those companies offering a consumer service contributed the second largest portion of job cuts. Challenger Gray & Christmas tracks dot-com companies in several categories including portals, media, entertainment and financial. The company said it was last May when it first noticed a burst in dot-com layoffs numbering in the thousands. In May 2000, it said there were 2,660 dot-com job cuts.
