Vodafone's staff cuts have hit a new height with the axe falling on the heads of four management at the telco's Mulgrave operations.

Up until now, the staff culling exercise has not impacted on management, however, 176 workers were made redundant at Strathfield in Sydney last week with a further 124 ready to be bumped off the payroll before Communications and Public Sector Union (CPSU) intervention.

"They've now given us some information on general redundancies they're planning on making," CPSU organiser Sean Rahui said.

According to Vodafone, "a further 190 redundancies are proposed on a national basis on the grounds of economic necessity".

Redundancies will occur in every aspect of the business, including clerical and administration, sales, marketing, IT, management, engineering and finance, Rahui said.

Vodafone has advised the CPSU that engineering redundancies are likely to hit workers in Chatswood, Mulgrave and Brisbane.

The CPSU has requested more detail from Vodafone, specifically how many staff will be lost from each site.

Vodafone notified the CPSU of this information on May 21 and said it envisaged the remaining redundancies to happen this week.

It could therefore be a worrying weekend for remaining Vodafone staff.

Vodafone would not confirm that four management positions had been terminated today.

"We announced two weeks ago that 350 positions would become redundant across the company and that's still the same," a Vodafone spokesperson said.
