EverythingLinux has this week expanded operations by opening a traditional retail storefront in Five Dock, Sydney.

This follows steady growth in consumer demand for Linux products since opening online facilities in February, as well as a marked increase in the diversity and number of Linux products available over the period.

According to Managing Director, Anthony Rumble, "It is interesting that in our case, rather than starting with a traditional storefront and the associated upfront costs, we decided to hit the ground running as an efficient 'native' online business.

This strategy forced us to plan our end-to-end processes very carefully from the beginning -- something that many traditional companies now face as a necessary afterthought."

"We have been able to effectively leverage many of the much-touted benefits of ecommerce. For example, the Internet's low barrier to entry allowed us to get up and running very quickly in a vertical market.

Low overheads and the efficiency of a comprehensive online catalogue have helped build the capital required to grow the business horizontally into a more traditional market."

"Linux has grown significantly beyond its origins as an Operating System primarily for nerds and enlightened system administrators." says Mr Rumble.

"The Linux desktop is becoming increasingly viable for a more diverse range of users. Rich GUI environments such as KDE and GNOME are now installed as standard with distributions, while powerful desktop applications such as office suites and sophisticated games are providing new classes of users with the functionality to which they are accustomed."
