Computer Sciences Corporation has signed a $14 million licensing agreement with Compuware Australia to streamline the licence arrangements of its outsourcing contracts where Compuware software tools are used.

The agreement is expected to extend the use of Compuware tools by CSC's clients, which include some of the largest organisations in Australia. It will also provide multi-user licensing and capacity-based charging to CSC, where licence cost is calculated according to the MIPS (million instructions per second) capacity of a CPU.

According to Chris Lawrenson, manager-Production Services at CSC, the agreement will be cost-effective for his company, enabling it to move licenses around according to the workload.

"A further benefit is greater certainty over software licensing costs. Not having to negotiate agreements on a site by site basis saves considerable time and effort for both CSC and Compuware," Lawrenson said

"This means we can provide significantly better pricing and service for our customers."

Under the agreement, Compuware will provide direct product support, while CSC will provide outsourcing services using the Compuware products.

John Debrincat, Compuware vice president Asia Pacific, said Compuware recognised that CSC had some fairly unique needs when it came to working out the contract.

"As one of Australia's largest outsourcing companies, CSC is a large volume user of our products. We've struck an agreement that provides the flexibility CSC requires while enabling us to expand the use of Compuware products in the market," Debrincat said.

"The agreement is the culmination of many months negotiation and cements a close working relationship between the two companies. The result is a 'win-win' outcome for Compuware and CSC."

The agreement covers Compuware's mainframe tools including File-AID, XPEDITER, Hiperstation and Abend-AID. Client/server tools covered under the agreement include QACentre, FaultXpert, File-AID Client/Server and the Eco family of system management products.
