Impact Systems, a local 'white box' or generic hardware maker agreed to conduct warranty repair work for general consumers with Optima products at $69 per hour plus GST, not including "small charges for shipping". Government agency customers have been advised to contact Impact Systems to negotiate appropriate rates for any warranty related work.
Administrators Moore Stephens, appointed to the Optima business in July, announced the resolution to Optima's warranty problems today.
Tens of suppliers as well as customers with outstanding warranties had been caught out by the closure of the business, including the NSW Roads and Traffic Authority (RTA), which had made a $1.5 million claim for warranties on many of the 5,000 PCs it had bought from Optima since 2005.
"Impact believes that the majority of repair work will be completed in under one hour," the statement said.
Outstanding warranties were seen by the administrators as the largest obstacle to find a business that would take on Optima as an ongoing concern.
However, last month the administrators gave up that tack, unable to find a buyer for the business, resulting in the sale of Optima's remaining equipment via online auction web site, Greys Online.
