Mate, FotC have been around one less year than Tripod have (Tripod formed in 1997 v FotC in 1998). OMG, FotC are a complete ripoff! Yeah. Totally. I spose you're going to try weasel your way out of it by saying, "oh i said various forms". Not existing yet isn't a form.
Just maybe, you know, grabbing an instrument and making a joke wasn't exactly the revolution in comedy that you seem to think it is.
There's no way in hell am I ashamed of Tripod. I just watched their performance at CESon youtube and it's one of my favourite songs by them. If you've never played a game instead of being with your partner, you might not understand the comedy of it. Or perhaps it rings a little too true for ya. Either way, I'm honestly surprised you didn't enjoy it, because judging by the audio of the CES, the crowd did.

I wrote "in various forms"... their current "popular" form was created in 1997 while Jermain and Brett were actually recording together before that... they just went the international stars that they are these days :-)
I have no idea what CES Microsoft keynote presentation you were watching, as during the LIVE presentation of the keynote the "crowd" actually went VERY quiet!!
While I was watching it with most of the ZDNet USA staff and many world reknown bloggers... and NONE of them liked it. They all "groaned and moaned about how bad it was" - again, as I previously wrote - this was in the live chat during the show.
Yes I completely understood the song... yes normally I would say it was funny BUT their actual performance of the song was, well, utter crap.
Its as simple as that.

fotc is all about themselves and its not even true its just fiction using their own names. if you put it into perspective tripod are just better!
New Zealand and America should open up to what music and good musicianship is and not just the comedy...

Having watched the keynote and taken part in a live discussion at the same time, I can tell you that Tripod were the biggest FAIL of the Microsoft keynote.
EVERYONE in the discussion (full of ZDNet staff and many other noted bloggers) were disgusted by Tripod!. The amount of "groans" and "moans" was overwhelming.
Plus, being a Kiwi by birth, I have to say that Tripod are a complete 'rippoff' of Flight of the Conchords!! FotC have been around for nearly 15 years!! (in various forms).
In fact, this is what the Americans were saying!! "Why did Microsoft hire this crap - why didn't they hire someone that was good like FotC" - literally word for word quote!
Australia should be ASHAMED of Tripod!
