The Brisbane-based company, which records AU$3 billion in annual turnover, wants to overhaul its data centre infrastructure as projected growth over the next four years affects its production, training and backup capacity.
Thiess runs its JD Edwards environment on Sun infrastructure running Solaris, and under the deal, will upgrade to a new range of Sun servers, software and storage.
A new Sun Fire E6900 server will power the JD Edwards environment. Also to be added are new storage arrays and a modular tape library.
Thiess' disaster recovery platform also merited a new Sun Fire E4900 server for extra processing power.
While upgrading its JD Edwards environment, Thiess said recently it was not eager to leap to the Oracle Fusion suite soon. Oracle Fusion is the software heavyweight's roadmap for products gained through the acquisitions of JD Edwards and PeopleSoft in the last few years.
