Tier two bank and major insurer Suncorp has consolidated and standardised its storage environment on NetApp's products, according to a statement distributed today by the vendor.
The implementation has helped Suncorp to reduce its datacentres from three to two, linking its pre-production and production datacentres with IP-based storage area networking.
Suncorp is deploying NetApp's FAS6070, FAS6080 and FAS6030 systems, and is also using software and hardware from virtualisation giant VMware and networking powerhouse Cisco Systems.
NetApp's release described the new storage environment as an "IT as a service model" based on its Dynamic Data Centre concept.
"We worked with NetApp to create a best practice design for our storage infrastructure through the use of virtualisation. By implementing NetApp, Cisco and VMware technology, we have increased our storage efficiency, introduced greater flexibility and reduced our total IT costs. We have also improved our ability to develop and bring new product and service applications to market and respond to customer demands quickly," Suncorp chief information officer Jeff Smith said in the statement.
You gotta love how the reality of the NetApp Suncorp deployment doesn't match the reality of external spin....but then again what does a storage engineer know...
