Myer outsources IT to IBM

Retail chain Myer will outsource its IT operations to IBM in a five-year deal announced yesterday.

"Under the scope of the contract, IBM will supply a range of IT services to Myer, including AS400 support, mid-range services, data networking, desktop, applications maintenance and development and helpdesk services," the retain chain said in a statement.

The Myer chain was bought from Coles Myer (CML) in March this year for AU$1,400 million by a consortium including Texas Pacific Group, NewBridge Capital and the Myer family's company.

Coles Myer has been providing IT services and support to the new Myer group in a transitional arrangement since that time, Myer's statement said.

"Our IT relationship with CML has been extremely professional and they have assisted us during the tender process, and will continue to work with Myer over the next 12 months as we transition selected IT components over to IBM," Myer chief executive Bernie Brookes said in the statement.

The statement added Myer would continue to have "direct commercial arrangements" with all of its other current IT third-party vendors, although they were not named.

The value of the contract was not disclosed.
