Beleaguered IT services company Commander has been awarded a contract worth $3.8 million by the Department of Finance and Deregulation to support the desktops of the Electorate Office, which Finance oversees.
The existing five year contract ended 31 June 2008 and covered support and hardware to approximately 250 electorate offices Australia-wide.
The one year extension, worth $3.8 million a year, will see Commander Communications continue to support the Electorate Office's 1000 desktops, laptops, printers and servers for the Electorate Office for the next year, according to Commander.
"We are delighted with the extension to our Electorate Office IT Services contract," Amanda Lacaze, Managing Director and CEO of Commander Communications said in a statement.
"Last year's Federal election resulted in a large number of changes which provided Commander with an excellent opportunity to demonstrate our ability to deliver in a very tight timeframe."
The extension means Commander will support the Electorate Office until 31 June 2009 and also includes the option for a further one year extension.
