Energex sees need for CIO

Queensland energy utility Energex has created a new chief information officer position as it aims to strengthen management of its IT resources.

The move follows an organisational restructure earlier this year, a spokesperson for the group told ZDNet Australia.

The new Energex CIO will be appointed shortly, the spokesperson said, and will report directly to the group's chief financial officer.

Energex is one of Australia's largest companies with a claimed AU$5.6 billion in assets, 3,300 employees and around 1.2 million residential, industrial and commercial customers on its energy grid in Queensland.

The group is not the only energy utility to restructure its IT management in recent times. South Australian-based ETSA lost its CIO to a business improvement role in April, and NSW-based Energy Australia is still on the lookout for a permanent IT boss after a number of interim executives have held the CIO position since late last year.
