Dell to upgrade Linux support

in brief Computer manufacturer Dell announced yesterday that it would pre-install Linux on select desktop and notebook systems.

On its corporate blog, Dell said it would expand its Linux support beyond servers and Precision workstations.

Dell signalled its intentions to beef up Linux support after the results of a Linux survey the company launched earlier this month. According to the statement, more than 70 percent of respondents -- over 100,000 -- said they would use a Dell system with a Linux operating system for both home and office purposes.

The computer maker will release more detailed information, including the systems offered, and the Linux distributions that will be available, in coming weeks.
