"Happy, happy Christmas, that can win us back to the delusions of our childhood days, recall to the old man the pleasures of his youth, and transport the traveller back to his own fireside and quiet home!" — Charles Dickens.

Corny quotes aside, Christmas is a special time of year.

It's when everyone can set aside their differences and reflect on the year that was, from its triumphs to its moments of despair.

With these sentiments in mind, the ZDNet.com.au team would like to invite all readers of the site to the first of what we hope will become our annual Christmas drinks night, to be held on Wednesday 9 December, kicking off from 6pm at Maloney's Hotel, which is located on the corner of Pitt and Goulburn Streets in the Sydney CBD.

It's just a casual get-together, but we anticipate there will be plenty to talk about! Some of the discussions that have gotten people fired up on the site over the past year have been the National Broadband Network (of course), whether Lotus Notes is on its last legs or not, and even whether phantom monitor pain is a real ailment or just a figment of our imagination.

If you're interested in coming, let us know in the talkback below this article, drop us an email at tips@zdnet.com.au, or just rock up on the night with any mates that want to come! Everyone is welcome. The ZDNet.com.au staff will be wearing name badges and we'll have signs up somewhere so you'll know where we are.

Unfortunately at this stage, attendees will need to pay for their own drinks (and any food). You can see some of the photos below from our previous drinks night in May. The complete photo gallery of the night is also online.

Thanks Vasso Massonic -- 02/11/09 (in reply to #320390396)

Renai, thanks for the E-mail invite. I'll be away in December visiting a VIP ( my great grandson) but take this opportunity to wish your good self and all your readers a most merry Christmas and and a happy New Year.

Cheers! Renai LeMay -- 02/11/09 (in reply to #320390412)

No worries Vasso, thanks for the best wishes! Best wishes to you and your grandson!

Friendship is equality. Sydney Lawrence -- 02/11/09

Seasons greeting and goodwill to all.

As it happens I will be in Sydney on Wednesday December 9 as Carol ( that massive Telstra tycoon shareholder, RS and Salami) and I will be boarding the Diamond Princess at Circular Quay the next day.

It would be a pleasure, privilege and honour to have a drink with you all.

Fantastic news! Renai LeMay -- 02/11/09 (in reply to #320390406)

That's fantastic news Sydney! Glad to have you *aboard* :)

No debate on the night please.... Salami Chujillo -- 02/11/09 (in reply to #320390408)

    Buzz-kill Renai LeMay -- 02/11/09 (in reply to #320390413)

Awe Salami ... you take all the fun out of it :)

At the last reader's drinks we got into a massive discussion with Graeme Harrison about Telstra and all things telecommunications, not to mention rocket fuel and aerodynamics!

Wait a minute ... I don't think I remember all of it though ... too many Guinnesses!

Christmas party Vincent Olivieri -- 03/11/09

    Thankyou, I'd love to come.

Awesome! Renai LeMay -- 03/11/09 (in reply to #320390496)

    Glad to here it!

Yep Count me in Pete -- 03/11/09

Will be there and hopefully bring another geek or two

Cool! Renai LeMay -- 03/11/09 (in reply to #320390510)

    Glad to hear it!

I'll have to dig out my VA Linux shirt on the night (it slags off Windows 2K) to demonstrate my geek credentials.

You can't get the management to fork out for some wedges? a bag o' crisps? something? CBS Interactive is a multi-million dollar division of CBS. The same readers coming to this party provide the views and clicks that drives the advertising model and makes money for you guys.

So instead of taking the advertisers out for wining and dining, how about rewarding your loyal readers?

Budgets Renai LeMay -- 03/11/09 (in reply to #320390519)

I'm not personally in charge of this area but I'll pass on the request to the people that are ;)

Offensive comments Renai LeMay -- 09/11/09

    hi everyone,

FYI I have removed a number of offensive comments from this post. Please note that this is a thread about our reader Christmas party and not a forum for debate about who owns what Telstra shares and who indeed RS is.

There are plenty of other threads on ZDNet.com.au for that ;)

Agree... RS -- 09/11/09 (in reply to #320391122)

    Agree Renai,

So had I not been typically, wrongly accused by a serial flamer who refuses to debate comms, responses wouldn't have been required!

Perhaps I could have just let it go, but why should I?

I do note with interest however, you still left the original wrong accusation, which caused the problem in the first place and another stupid comment addressed to me, but deleted the rest.

If you were truly being fair, you would have removed all comments or left them all.

RS Renai LeMay -- 10/11/09 (in reply to #320391134)

    hi RS,

my experience with your posts on our forums has been that you have constantly antagonised several of our long-term members, including but not only Sydney Mike.

My patience with this behaviour is wearing thin. As you will have seen, I have been more active in deleting abusive comments in general across the site.

Having said that, you are right about that one lone comment that escaped the cull, it wasn't fair, and I have now deleted that as well. It was an oversight on my part.

    Cheers,

Hi RS -- 10/11/09 (in reply to #320391216)

    Hi again Renai,

    Antagonoistic?

I think of my posts more as Telstra braille!

    Have a nice party.

    Regards,
    RS

re Hi Anonymous -- 13/11/09 (in reply to #320391234)

Substitute the word "brainless" for "braille" and you will have got it right.

    Whose the antagonist now, lol...

    A shame it's in a pub, again. Brian -- 11/11/09

As a long-time reader, would have liked to come along until I saw it's being held at a pub. Is that really the best we can do? a work party at a pub. Big turn off for the rest of us.

Shame about the date Anonymous -- 16/11/09

I would love to join you but the Digital Industry White Party is on that same night, sorry :-(

Will be there! Anonymous -- 16/11/09

Would love to drop in.. see you there
