The deal -- believed to be worth AU$15 million to AU$30 million -- encompasses supply of a minimum 10,000 Veriton 2800-and 5800-series desktops and 2,000 Travelmate series 3282 and 3012-series notebooks over the next 12 months. The deal also includes supply of 19- and 17-inch monitors.
However, it is understood the NAB's desktop transformation program stipulates 20,000 personal computers -- desktops and notebooks - require replacement. The program also sees the institution replacing a raft of Microsoft desktop operating systems with a managed XP environment.
The program is one element of a massive information technology overhaul at the NAB that is also seeing the installation of 1400 new servers and the same number of new printers. It is believed Acer beat out rivals Lenovo, Dell and Hewlett-Packard to secure the desktop hardware deal.
