NICTA gave ZDNet.com.au a closer look at its 5Gbps wireless chip at CeBIT Australia 2008.

NICTA first gave the world a glimpse of the high-speed wireless chip last year, promising speeds of up to 2Gbps using the 60GHz band with a range of up to 10 metres.

A year later, NICTA has boosted its speed expectations to 5Gbps, and developed a roadmap to take the chip to market, with project leader Professor Stan Skafidas claiming interest from "quite well known names".

The tiny chip, small enough to sit on a fingertip, was on show at this year's CeBIT.
